I have had Cavs for 40 years (lots of little black jars on my library shelves. I remember each one as if it were a person, each with their own identity. The loss of one is devastating, and takes me several weeks to function normally. I went through the period where they had a heart problem- spent tons$$$ and drove miles to veterninary schools. I now have 2 one 13 and 1 who is 9. I have quit with the shots and vaccines as these girls are very healthy and happy- I had a terrible experience with an older Cav and a vet that cleaned her teeth, and took her life. So, I from the beginning use a dog dentifrice on a wash cloth and keep their teeth clean. My 13 year old, even with all my care has lost most of her teeth, She knows, without a doubt that she is a princess and very beautiful. I tell her that everyday many times. My 2 girls love each other and kiss and snuggle constantly. They have added so much to our lifes. I will never be without at least 1, but 2 is always best. I love this breed, and feel that in the place of children, God gave us the knowledge and ability to have Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. All those little black jars are going in the box with me when I go. I could never bury one, what if I had to move? so you can see I/we are some of the lucky people that found Cavaliers. I would put a Cav on the floor with a baby human and they would never be any concern, even with 3 year old kids that want to pull them or play rough- this breed would never ever hurt a child- thhey will break your heart when you lose one, but you have to tell yourself- this dog was loved from the moment you had it until it's last breath. was never hurt, or yelled at and got back every bit of the massive amounts of love they have shown us.

Excellent breed for anyone of any age to have, very easy going and well-tempermented, not aggressive in any way. A great breed for a first-time owner. The only thing to be aware of is to never let this breed off the leash, they are not the smartest dog out there and they are prone to running after something they want to chase and running infront of moving vehicles to get to it.

Hate to disagree with mikefhess - these dogs are extremely intelligent - it just takes a smart person to train them - they love children (I have 10 grandchildren that just love him) they will be your faithful friend until the day they die - true love - just look at those faces!!! GUS

We just lost our beautiful Cavalier girl and can't think of any other dog we've known who was as sweet, responsive and great to have around as she was. She was a great all round dog - loved to romp and swim with the kids and was happy being couch potato with Mum. Sadly, she had a respiratory problem which shorted her life and she left us at age 7. We are debating whether to get a new Cavvy (don't want to compare to her) or just wait a while. If you get a Cavvy, be sure breeder has cleared heart, breathing and other hereditary issues.

I just lost my baby, Bunny, a Golden Retriever. I will never get over it, but as I have done before when one of my babies, I adopted a purebred older dog. It will be a big surprise for my other Golden if I bring home a Cav! Wish you well.

I had many dogs. I had chow chows, Labradors, Great Danes and many more to be frank this breed is amazingly intelligent. I never had a dog as smart as this one. I completely disagree with mikefhess who doesen't know anything about the breed or probably about dogs in general. they are actually easy to train and they are very loyal. My dog never leaves my side and always listens to me.

My cavalier is very clever little man, always happy and eager to learn new tricks. I agree they just need to be trained properly and show them they are pleasing you so they please more, he also has a mischief side to him which shows he is unique, beautiful breed with a loving temperment.
