Working Cocker Spaniel Lenard, who was swept away during Storm Desmond
A family has been left heartbroken after their pet dog was swept away during Storm Desmond over the weekend.
Chocolate working Cocker Spaniel Lenard disappeared on Saturday morning when out walking with owner Stuart Huddleston, and has not been seen since.
His owners have launched an appeal to try to find him, which has been shared thousands of times on Facebook.
Charlotte Huddleston, 24, said: “My husband shoots pheasants and my dog fetches the birds back.
“The bird fell into a little stream of water, he went to try to get it and he just got swept into a bigger stream and just got swept away.”
The dog was swept into Artle Beck in Littledale, near Caton, which later joins the River Lune, at about 10.30am.
Charlotte, who lives in Wray, said: “The last vision my husband had of him was just his head bobbing, trying to get out and he just got swept away so quickly.” The couple has had the five-year-old dog since he was born, and also has his daughter Lola, who is two.
Charlotte said: “I hope and pray he’s OK.
“I’m really heartbroken- we’ve got no children, they’re our babies.
“We’ve got his daughter Lola, they sleep together and last night she was crying all night.”
Charlotte’s Facebook post had been shared more than 5, 400 times on Monday.
